Description: Mastersmith Shane Taylor forges a spectacular knife, and this folder is no exception. It has been in a private collection since it was made in 1999. It was the 20th folder that he had made at that point and easily shows his skills. In 1999 the "Montana Boys" folder was being developed and it was knives such as this that defined the style. The Batwing Folder style is a hallmark of Shane Taylor's career. The knife is in perfect condition and by all appearances could have been made yesterday.
Shane began by forging the complex damascus billet for the blade and bolsters. The radialed Crusader mosaic pattern began with 15N20 and 1084 carbon steels.
Mammoth ivory scales comprise the handle, and are predominantly cream colored with some darker striations and flecks. Each screw was meticulously hand fileworked and heat blued. The single right hand thumbstud is damascus and is adorned with an AA grade faceted fire citrine. The backbar is also damascus and is fileworked (both inside and out) and sandwiched between 15N20 carbon steel liners intricately fileworked on both sides of the knife. As with Shane's other batwing folders, the handle fits securely into the hand and allows several comfortable grips. The blade is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth action.
Exceptional fit and finish throughout. A very rare and exciting find!
