Description: South African knifemaker Andre van Heerden creates an amazing folder -- and at a price that could never be found from an American maker.
The drop point blade has silky-smooth action and is well centered. The mosaic damascus used for the blade was forged by Doug Ponzio. The modified spirograph pattern mosaic damascus is tremendously visually complex and can hold attention both from up close and from afar.
The M315 stainless steel bolsters have been hand engraved by Julien Marchal. Belgium-born artist Julien Marchal studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in Belgium. The floral scroll engraving is meticulously executed.
Presentation grade mammoth bark scales incorporate stunning dark blue, black and caramel tones. The colors found in mammoth bark, which is the outermost layer of the ivory, are a result of mineral absorption close to the tusk underground. The colors throughout this piece are particularly dramatic and exceptionally rare. The scales are nicely dovetailed to the bolsters for a perfect fit. Titanium liners have been anodized to a brilliant deep blue and surround the damascus backbar. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
