Description: Mastersmith Bruce Bump made two Outlaw Bowie style knives in his career. This is the original one that he made back in May of 2004. It has been in a private collection and is in mint condition. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The long, slender blade was hand forged from 52100 carbon steel. Many knifemakers and knife users have found 52100 to be among the best performing steels used on knives. It is fairly easy to sharpen and takes on a remarkably keen, long lasting edge with just the right amount of bite. A triple quench and triple temper ensure that Bruce got the best performance out of the steel. A hand rubbed satin finish results in an heirloom quality.
The double guard is a style Bruce developed, which is affectionately called a 'bump guard'. The two piece guard is reminiscent of the hammer on shotgun. The guard is formed from 1018 mild steel and is gun blued. Engraving throughout the guard was done by Thomas Moro. A fileworked spacer is formed from heat colored titanium. Pre-ban elephant ivory scales are set proud on the distal tapered full tang. Showing his precision craftsmanship, the entire knife is made with take-down construction, so that it can be easily disassembled for cleaning and maintenance.
The knife is accompanied by the original Certificate of Authenticity from Bruce as well as an Affidavit of Origin from the David Warther Museum stating that the ivory was brought into the US in 1967.
