Description: Andre Thorburn's Renoster is a spectacular exhibition of craftsmanship. Renoster is the Afrikaner name for Rhinoceros and is an apt name for this knife -- the bolsters feature an incredibly detailed engraving of the two species of rhinoceros native to South Africa.
The folder is easily opened either with a flick of the wrist or pressing the flipper toggle. When combined with the IKBS ball bearing system, the action is absolutely phenomenal!! The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. This is among the smoothest knives I have ever felt.
The blade is formed from stainless damascus forged by Chad Nichols. The steel is particularly high contrast and immediately captivating. Andre polished the flats to a mirror whereas the hollow grinds feature a light etch. The combined finishes are exquisite!
The scales are made from jet black carbon fiber offset by mirror polished 416 stainless steel bolsters. Each bolster has been meticulously hand engraved by Julien Marchal, a Belgium-born artist who studied engraving and gun making at Léon Mignon Liège in Belgium. Julien demonstrates extraordinary finesse in carving and shading each rhino such that they take on a lifelike vibrancy. An engraving of a white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) graces the left bolster, while a black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) graces the right. Titanium liners are meticulously hand fileworked and anodized to a blue tone. Red liners add a flash of color.
Attention has been paid to every detail throughout this knife and the resulting fit and finish is stunning!
