Description: This Goldfish Pendant is a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry created by engraving and carving shibuichi. Shibuichi means "one-fourth" in Japanese and indicates the standard formulation of one part silver to four parts copper. Until the Meiji reforms (late 19th century), when swordsmiths began to make purely decorative objects instead of swords, shibuichi was used to ornament various fittings for katana.
The pendant depicts a detailed goldfish swimming across an antique wrought iron background with .999 fine silver overlay bubbles. The rivets and eyes are also formed from silver. The back of the pendant is backed with .999 fine silver. This pendant clearly shows Tom's experience making netsuke (small sculptural objects, or toggles, usually worn to suspend objects hung from the sash of the kimono).
The pendant measures approximately 1 1/2 inches in height and is approximately 1 inch across. It is accompanied by an 18 inch Argentium silver chain with silver findings.
