Description: This unique skinner was made by Mastersmith Kevin Harvey back in 1997. It has been in a private collection and has been meticulously cared for. It has never been used to cut and is in new condition. There are no scuffs or dings anywhere and by all appearances could have been made yesterday.
The blade is formed from D6 tool steel. It is hollow ground and mirror polished. The ricasso and flats are carved to represent glacial striations -- grooves left behind where rocks were pulls along by glaciers.
The stacked handle is forged from three segments of elk antler, nickel silver and genuine lapis lazuli stone. The central section of elk antler is scrimshawed by Tinus Els, and shows a moose in a river eating water grass. The opposing side shows two bull elks fighting. The front and rear guard are formed from nickel silver. These are engraved by Tinus Els. Detailed, three dimensional maple leaves are shown on the front guard. The pommel shows a detailed moose portrait. Spacers alternate genuine lapis lazuli gemstone inlays with textured nickel silver.
Exceptional work throughout from a tremendous maker!
