Description: Renowned South African Billy Kojetin was well known for his fanciful daggers and swords prior to passing away in the summer of Summer of 2010. Billy was one of the very early Southern Africa Guild members, joining in the early 80's. He is remembered for his flamboyant and creative knifemaking. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey studied under Billy and was one of his good friends. This large bowie is an homage to Billy. Kevin made it back in 1996. It has been in a private collection has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances it could have been made yesterday.
The long clip point blade was made from D6 tool steel. The hollow grinds are mirror polished. The flats are meticulously textured.
The handle combines 20 pieces of fileworked nickel silver surrounding two sections of fluted African blackwood, which in turn surround a large central section of mosaic paua shell. The work is exceptional and a dramatic and accurate homage to one of the great African knifemakers.
