Description: Jonny Walker Nilsson is one the true masters of the Sami styled knife. His work has been recognized for its innovations while working within this very traditional medium. Mattias Styrefors is one of the true masters of Damascus steel. Since 2006, Jonny and Mattias, long time friends, began working together and sharing their arts. The results are exceptional!
The multi-bar damascus blade was forged to shape by Mattias. It combines bold and fine patterns so as to captivate attention from a distance and hold it upon closer examination. The heat blued steel is high contrast and very dramatic.
The stacked handle begins with a cross cut section of reindeer antler. Alternating layers of mammoth ivory and dyed and stabilized box elder burl move into a large section of stabilized mammoth bone. The right side of the handle is engraved in a traditional Sami motif (the pattern is not scrimshaw, it is hand engraving darkened with pine bark powder) by Jonny.
The knife is accompanied by a traditional Swedish leather pouch style sheath. It has been hand tooled and features a square of matching heat blued damascus. Exceptional work throughout!
