Description: South African knifemaker Andre van Heerden creates an amazing folder -- and at a price that could never be found from an American maker.
The large clip point blade has silky-smooth action and is perfectly centered, as you would expect from such a top notch knifemaker. The Panzer 36 stainless steel blade has been hand satin finished on the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. This accentuates the unique, crisp grind lines.
Panzer 36 is a martensitic stainless steel with high hardness, high wear resistance and good corrosion resistance. It is cross rolled in production to cancel out residual stresses from the manufacturing process. It has only recently begun being used by knifemakers and has gained significant acclaim by South African makers, where it has quickly found popularity. Mastersmith Kevin Harvey has been involved in the initial testing of Panzer 36 and describes it as having ' excellent edge holding and toughness.' The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. By hand satin finishing the grinds and mirror polishing the flats, Andre accentuates the unique, crisp grind lines.
The flipper style opening is a perfect combination with the IKBS ball bearing system. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) pivot system was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with virtually no blade play. The blade is easily opened using the flipper mechanism or with a simple flick of the wrist.
Titanium liners have been bronze anodized and surround the stainless steel backbar. Using these two materials keeps this knife light, durable, and nimble! Rather than end-butting G10 to the carbon fiber bolsters, G10 is inlaid into the carbon fiber, a superior, stronger construction. A pocket clip, set for tip-up carry, means this knife is always close at hand. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
