Description: Anders creates knives with an intriguing fusion of Japanese and Nordic cultures. He blends the techniques and styles of his native Sweden with those learned from Scott Slobodian during his apprenticeship in the United States. This influence, combined with his tremendous skill, makes for knives that are beautifully original.
This kwaiken from Anders has a clay tempered blade using traditional Japanese methods that allow the steel to take a hard edge while maintaining the inherent resilience of a softer spine. The result is a keen, easy to maintain edge on a blade that has tremendous durability. The heat treatment line, or hamon, undulates down the blade with a turnback along the spine. By matching the swirl of the hamon to the swirl of the wood grain, Anders shows his eye for - and mastery of - his design aesthetic. When viewed from above, the spine forms an interesting diamond shape, complimenting the sculpted handle nicely. The handle is formed from birdseye maple burl wood which has been stabilized and dyed green. When combined with the natural browns of the wood, this results in a stunning effect. The textured copper bolsters are echoed in the central pin and lined lanyard hole. The wood is set off to perfection by the warm tones of the copper. The knife is accompanied by a traditional Swedish tooled leather sheath. Exceptional work throughout!
