Description: Scot Matsuoka began making knives in the early 90s but it wasn't until 2003, under the watchful eye of master knife maker Ken Onion, that the knife bug truly bit. There is a similarity in the design style of Scot's early folders when compared to Ken’s work but over time he has developed a unique and enduring style of his own. He makes knives under the "Koloa Duck" logo, a name honoring his native Hawai'i.
Scot began by forming the blade from CPM154 stainless steel. This powdered metallurgical steel has a smaller grain structure, resulting in a tough, high performance blades. The elegant satin finish shows off clean, precise grind lines and the dramatically recurved, leaf blade shape. The flipper mechanism is smooth and solid, quick to deploy and locking securely in place.
The handle is well shaped and feels good in the hand, surprisingly light for its size due to the use of titanium. The detailed anime style engraving by Norimi depicts a bold spiderweb stretching across the handle, a finely textured spider crouching over a young girl caught in the web's snare. Cutouts around the girl are inlaid with red enameling. The metal around the engraving is mirror polished. The pivot screw is sculpted into a detailed sculpted skull. More engraving adorns the reverse side, a screaming banshee surrounded by three skulls seems to almost leap out at the viewer. The nicely domed handle provides a comfortable and secure grip.
The titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-down carry and is engraved with a black widow spider.
