Description: Johan Gustafsson is renowned for creating some of the most detailed damascus found anywhere, and this is an exceptional example of this talented master's work.
The blade was forged to shape from pictorial mosaic damascus. Johan is fond of incorporating elements of myth and whimsy into his work. It features finely wrought dragons, their wings spread in flight, and unicorn heads with tousled manes. Both are forged directly into the damascus. The blade's edge is forge-welded explosion pattern damascus, and provides a fine counterpoint to the filework gracing the spine. The blade is finished with a diamond inlaid damascus thumb stud.
The handle incorporates ladder pattern damascus front and rear bolsters set around exquisitely colored Baltic amber scales. Amber is a fossil resin of which Baltic amber is considered the most sought after. It occurs as rounded nodules, drops, grains, and stalactites - pieces of the size and color used in this knife are quite rare. Johan has matched the tones well on both scales. The bolsters are dovetailed to the amber for a perfect fit. The scales sit on fully fileworked titanium liners, anodized to gold tones. The backbar is formed from matching ladder pattern damascus. Gold toned screws complete the piece. A screw on the interior allows the stop point to be adjusted. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
