Description: Mastersmith Henry Torres had the opportunity to work under renowned bladesmith Bill Burke in the spring of 2006. This allowed him to best understand Bill's techniques of heat treating and implementation, which result in a level of edge holding rarely found elsewhere. This knife has been in a single private collection since it was first made in the spring of 2011. It has never been used to cut and by all appearances could have been made yesterday.
Following the methods developed in conjunction by Mastersmiths Ed Fowler and Bill Burke, the blade was hand forged with many low temperature thermal cycles, ensuring a small crystalline structure throughout the blade. A triple quench and triple temper create some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. A differential heat treatment line is evident on the blade, showing the transition between the softer spine and hard edge. 52100 is considered by many knife collectors and makers as among the highest performing steels found modern knives.
The presentation grade ironwood burl handle is nicely shaped for a sure, comfortable grip. Black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Ironwood is amazingly stable, making this an exceptional knife for use out in the field. The handle is completed with six stainless pins.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
