Description: Michael Quesenberry has this to say about the art of knifemaking - "A custom knife should do three things well: be visually appealing, well-balanced in the hand, and hold a razor-sharp edge." BladeGallery was fortunate enough to meet Michael at the 2010 Boise knife show, very soon after he had been honored as a jouneyman smith. This knife clearly manifests the three characteristics prized by Michael and BladeGallery is excited to carry his work.
Michael began by forging the blade from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels in a tiled Ws pattern. The bolster is integral, a technique often seen in factory knives but rarely in handmade knives due to the difficulty of construction. When combined with damascus steel, the results are quite captivating. The clip point balances the natural curve of the antler handle well.
Both the spacer and the end cap are made from satin finished 416 stainless steel. The end cap is completed with a turned finial.
The knife is made with take down construction for ease of repair, which requires a much higher level of fit and finish. Journeyman Smith Michael Quesenberry has shown himself to excel!
This piece was awarded "Best Damascus" at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Knife Show in Boise, Idaho.
