Description: South African knifemaker Andre van Heerden creates an amazing folder -- and at a price that could never be found from an American maker.
The drop point blade has silky-smooth action and is perfectly centered, as you would expect from such a top notch knifemaker. Both the blade and bolsters are extremely complex and deserve considerable attention. The bolster, in particular, deserves a closer look - forged into the steel are tiny, perfect pictures, including a delicate spider, a star, and a number of distinct and masterfully forged shapes. The exhibition grade mammoth ivory scales have deep blue/green tones. Combining these two materials has created a beautiful folder that would be perfectly at home in any collection, or an absolute joy to use. The scales are nicely dovetailed to the bolsters for a perfect fit. Titanium liners have been anodized and surround the stainless steel backbar, in a blue tone that complements the cool tones of the mammoth ivory well. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
