Description: The Sipapu Dagger is named after the hole in the earth that the people and animals emerged from according to Southwestern Native American lore. This dramatic dagger is created in Tom's unique "knapped steel" style -- resembling a differentially knapped obsidian knife. Large flaking marks traverse the flat surfaces, moving into precise, sharp "flaked" edges.
The handle is formed from shibuichi. This precious Japanese metal is an alloy combining 25% silver and 75% copper. The resulting alloy has a bronze-copper tone. The right scale represents the empty underworld. The right shows the people and animals emerging into the present world. The knife is accompanied by a presentation case made from walnut. Exceptional work throughout!
