Description: This exceptional presentation dagger by David Mirabile was the ABS J.S. Knife of the Year in 2005. It has been in a single collection and was meticulously cared for.
Journeyman Smith David Mirabile creates masterpieces with a unique style combining the materials and feel of the Pacific Northwest native peoples with techniques and styles from the Far East. The wrapped handle holds fossil walrus ivory artifact menuki. These menuki were used by the Inuit people as harpoon tips during the 18th and 19th centuries. An antiqued copper guard and integral damascus finials complete the handle.
The Damascus blade was forged very closely to shape. The central ridge of the dagger ground blade is forged finished, with the grinds revealing the detailed damascus pattern. A long false clip and fighter blade allow for the forge texturing at the center of the blade.
The dagger is accompanied by a fossil wooly mammoth vertebra stand. The tip of the dagger rests on a leather dot in the vertebra.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
