Description: The Heavin Forge team, led by Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey, makes exceptional knives and this graceful tanto is no exception.
This blade, which measures just over 6 3/4 inches, was forged a Laddered Ws pattern damascus. The gently undulating, repetitive pattern has tremendous detail and a very high layer count. On the right side of the blade, Kevin and Rupert chose to leave the remains of a forging mark -- a reminder of the knife's beginnings in fire.
The handle and saya are both curly maple that has been treated with a Danish oil finish. Fittings throughout are antiqued bronze. Kevin engraved aquatic life scenes throughout. The textured habaki (blade guard) leads in the tsuba (guard). The front of the tsuba shows off lily pads floating on a pond. Detailed koi and frogs are shown with cat tails throughout other fittings. Exceptional work throughout. Accompanied by certificate from the maker.
