Description: When European explorers began traversing the American frontier, they brought many tools such as knives as well as raw materials such as iron and files that would later on be turned into knives. Tom Sterling has created this captivating trade knife in the style of these blades of our early heritage.
The blade was hand forged from 1080 carbon steel, leaving the forge marks in the flat of the blade. Following the techniques used on the frontier, the blade was shaped using files. The file marks combine elegantly with the forged finish.. The elk antler handle is secured to the tang using hand hammered copper pins. The copper butt cap has been carved and engraved. The knife is accompanied by a frontier style rawhide sheath. The sheath features leather trim and a copper dangly that has been carved in the same theme as the butt cap. Exceptional work throughout!
