Description: Mastersmith Heather Harvey is inspired by the knives and spears of the indigenous peoples in surrounding areas. Her love for this work shines through in this Mambele sickle sword -- a South African ceremonial sword.
The dramatic, swooping blade was forged to shape from Heather's Winding River pattern Damascus. Carbon steels were forged together into a complex "river" of steel. The handle is formed from a zebra shin bone. A copper collar and guard nicely finish the sword. The guard was formed by Mastersmith Kevin Harvey, Heather's husband, and was designed to resemble an African shield. The shield has been hand engraved in a South African motif. Exceptional work throughout.
