Description: This exceptional flail is a collaborative effort between Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey and their apprentice De Wet Van Zyl. Their combined skill and inventiveness really shines through on this piece.
The Middle Ages was an extremely violent era in history. Feudal lords and knights used such weapons as the flail in different types of warfare. The flail was predominantly used by knights and foot soldiers and was quite a powerful offensive weapon. This flail would certainly have been the envy of any knight or foot soldier!
The flail itself was forged from damascus. Sharp damascus spikes protrude from a central, heavy damascus core. This is held by hand forged chain with alternating wrought iron and damascus links. The wrought iron is recovered from 1800s era wagon wheels. The hand guard is also forged from damascus with damascus spikes. The handle is copper wrapped with copper fittings.
The chain measures 35 inches in length. The handle measures approx. 7 1/4" across. Each of the spikes are approx. .8 inches in height with a diameter of .6 inches. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
