Description: Another in the "ugly fish" series, the Anglerfish is carved from hand forged 1075 carbon steel. Tom mixes metal carving with engraving and inlay to create vivid, dynamic fish. One side portrays a deep sea viperfish. On the other is a giant squid. The eyes have been inlaid with silver for a vivid, lifelike appearance. The eyes show the strongest evidence of Tom's experience with netsuke (small sculptural objects, or toggles, usually worn to suspend objects hung from the sash of the kimono). Accompanied by a presentation stand made from cocobolo and elk antler. Exceptional work throughout!
