Description: This exceptional large Dha draws its influence from Eastern and Western styles. Between the fit and finish, the dramatic Damascus, and Michael's woodworking skills, it is no surprise that this masterpiece won "Best Sword of Show" at the 2007 Blade West Show in Portland, OR. The deeply re-curved blade makes it an exceptional cutter. The long clip lightens the blade and results in a perfect swinging motion.
Michael forged the 28 1/2" blade from four separate carbon steels -- 15N20, 52100, 8660, and 1080. The resulting wild random pattern Damascus is highly detailed -- continuing to be fascinating both from a distance and upon closer examination. By forging the blade to shape, Michael has assured exceptional strength and beauty. A mar quench during the heat treatment results in optimal edge retention. Particularly unique is the fact that Michael forged the blade, bolster and tang from one billet of his Damascus! Making integral knives -- even when small pieces -- is a challenge that is easily beyond most makers. Making an integral sword of these proportions is virtually unheard of.
The handle is formed from Peruvian walnut with curly maple and African blackwood details. The woods are reflected in the presentation stand. Michael's superior woodworking is a hallmark of his style. The woods are meticulously combined complex arches. Exceptional work throughout.
