Description: Coming back from the Blade show with journeyman smith test knives is one of my great highlights of the year. Five knives were made by each applicant that are the height of their work. These knives were judged by ABS Mastersmiths on fit and finish, as well as general artistry. The standards are exacting. This skinning knife was one of the five knives that Jim selected as the best of his work for judging by the masters.
The swayback blade was forged to shape from 5160 carbon steel. Hardened to Hrc 58-59, the knife will have exceptional edge holding. The blade was differentially heat treated for a hard, long lasting edge. The spine is softened for durability and strength. The appleseed grind further assures a long lasting, durable edge. A hand rubbed satin finish has elegance and heirloom quality. The handle is formed from a solid piece of myrtle wood. Exceptional work throughout!
