Description: Arno Bernard Sr. is a maker from South Africa and has been making knives for over 35 years. He has been a member of the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) for over 20 years. Living in South Africa has allowed him the luxury of using many different exotic handle materials -- some even collected himself. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. Other than a few very small scruffs on the blade, the knife is in near mint condition.
The five inch drop point blade is hand ground 12C27 stainless steel, made by Sandvik in Sweden. This steel takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it. It also maintains high toughness, high chip resistance, and good corrosion resistance -- it is a well rounded choice for a hard use fixed blade. The blade features a hand rubbed satin finish. The spine is domed for extra comfort. Both the blade and tang are distal tapered creating perfect balance in hand.
The handle is ancient mammoth ivory set on the full tang using five stainless steel pins. The ivory is brought to a high polish and well matched in cream and coffee tones. The scales are perfectly fit to satin finished stainless steel bolsters.
To keep the knife close at hand, a pouch style leather sheath is included.
Nice work throughout!
