Description: Ron Best creates a dramatic knife -- and recently Ron has focused on making integral knives. This technique shows tremendous control -- the steel parts, from blade to guard and handle are all made from one piece of steel. The result is an exceptionally strong, dramatic knife.
The grind lines are very clear and well performed. The upswept tanto blade has a strong edge and has been heat treated using a clay heat treatment. The resulting guname heat treatment line (called a hamon) is a slow, repetitive undulating line which shows the transition between the ultra-hard edge and softer, resilient spine. The blade has been meticulously hand satin finished. The integral D-2 handle has been sculpted and meticulously inlaid with exhibition grade desert ironwood. The steel throughout the handle has been mirror polished. The balance point is in just in front of the guard making this tanto fast in the hand. Exceptional fit and finish throughout on a very captivating, elegant knife.
