Description: This captivating dagger is the masterwork of South African bladesmith Bertie Rietveld. The blade is a seven bar Turkish twist pattern damascus that has been hot blued. This bluing technique produces a stronger coloring than nitre bluing and does not affect the heat treatment. Damascus steel throughout was forged by Bertie. Inset into the base of the blade is a Stanhope lens. This hallmark of Bertie's work reveals his logo when spied through.
The guard and pommel are also both forged from Bertie's Damascus steel. By including pure nickel, he assures a very high contrast. Nickel lines flare out from the center as the Damascus moves away from the center of the knife. The handle is formed from verdite. In short supply, verdite is an uncommon stone. A dark green background is highlighted with yellow, red, and lighter green spots. Exceptional work throughout! (Not accompanied by stand)
