Description: It is no surprise, looking at this captivating folder, why Mastersmith Shane Taylor won Best Folding Knife at the 2004 MKA show with this knife. The copper toned Damascus is a cold copper bluing process pioneered by M.S. Shane Taylor. The colors are fixed with a clear baking lacquer -- which often changes the colors, hence making this a long, painstaking process taking up to four days. The result was certainly worth the extra effort.
I'm a fan of "theme knives". By this, I mean knives that tell a story or have a consistent theme throughout the knife. One of Shane's defining styles of knife is the batwing folder and so it should be no surprise that he would decide to do a bat themed piece. The blade features 'bat' figures set on a swirling Damascus background. An onyx ball is held in the thumb stud. Bats are fileworked into the 15N20 carbon steel liners. The backbar has been fileworked into bats both inside and out. Fossil mammoth ivory scales are cream toned with blue/green/chocolate veins moving across the surface. Even the screws have been engraved with bats.
As you would expect, exceptional fit and finish throughout.
