Description: Anders uses a traditional Japanese method of heat treating his blades where clay is packed onto the center of the blade. When the blade is heat treated, the edges become very hard while the spine remains relatively soft. This allows the inherent resilience in the steel to remain where it is needed and the edges to take and maintain a very sharp, wear resistant edge. In this case, he has done a double temper, resulting in multiple hamon lines.
The handle is created from exceptional fossilized walrus ivory. Dark tones move across a lighter background with defined striation marks. The result is quite captivating. Sterling silver fittings finish off both the knife and the masur birch sheath. The sheath is created from exhibition grade masur birch that has tremendous differences in tone and color. It is among the most impressive pieces that I have seen to date and shows off Anders' design and artistry to its best.
