Description: Shane created 10 dragon knives between 2001 and 2002 using different variations on the dragon pattern Damascus. This liner lock folder has been in a single collection and is in new condition. It could have been made yesterday! This piece is one of the hallmarks of Mastersmith Shane Taylor's career and shows his work and creativity at its best.
Among the most detailed Damascus ever, Mastersmith Shane Taylor's "Dragon" pattern Damascus is the stuff of legends. Shane used over five different steels for terrific variations in color, tone and shadow of the dragons portrayed in the Damascus. A magnifying glass will show even more detail in the dragons!
Shane used a taxidermy eye designed for diamondback rattlesnakes for the thumbstud. Gold leaf backing creates an amazing amount of iridescence. These are very difficult to set, but create a tremendously lifelike appearance.
The sculpted handle uses both mastodon and mammoth ivory to evoke a dragon’s scales and lighter stomach. Fully fileworked inside and out, ranging from the heat blued 15N20 liners, to the Damascus backbar. Even the screws have been fileworked. The interior is mirror polished and Shane has carved his initials, ST into the sculpted backbar.
