Description: Every so often, a bladesmith creates a knife that level of impact even surprises them. This was one of those pieces. While Mastersmith Shane Taylor was working on this exquisite folding liner lock, I was very excited to hear him describe this as among his favorite folders that he has ever created. When I finally held it my hand, it was immediately clear why he felt that way.
I'm a fan of "theme knives". By this, I mean knives that tell a story or have a consistent theme throughout the knife.
One of Shane's defining styles of knife is the batwing folder and so it should be no surprise that he would decide to do a bat themed piece. The blade features Bat figures set on a swirling Damascus background. An obsidian ball is held in the thumb stud by sculpted bat wings. 14k gold has been inlaid around the bats. On the bolsters, gothic ornamentation has been inlaid with 14k gold. Bats are fileworked into the 15N20 carbon steel liners. The backbar has been engraved with gothic styled bats both inside and out. The deep green fossil mammoth ivory scales have been sculpted and textured. Even the screws have been engraved with bats.
As you would expect, exceptional fit and finish throughout.
