Description: Mardi Meshejian's creative masterpieces are among the most dramatic and inspiring work today. He is a true innovator, both in style and technique.
The blade of this small dagger is created using a san mai (literally meaning three layers) technique, whereby 1084 carbon steel is sandwiched between Damascus steel. In this case, the Damascus on the sides is 25 layer Damascus forged from titanium, rather than steel. The result is phenomenal. The titanium has brilliant golds and purple tones. The cutting edge is pure 1084, which will have excellent edge retention.
The guard is heat blued titanium Damascus and is a brilliant blue/purple. The habaki (blade collar) is formed from shakudo. Shakudo is the Japanese term for a low gold content alloy which usually consists of between 2-7% gold and the rest copper. It takes on a smooth antiqued surface.
The fossil walrus ivory handle has been sculpted and shows off the fossil ivory to perfection. It is completed with a black diamond set in 18k gold.
This knife was featured in the September 2003 issue of Blade Magazine in an article about Mardi's work.
