Description: Coming back from the Blade show with mastersmith test knives is one of my great highlights of the year. In 2003, nine new mastersmiths joined the ranks. Five knives were made by each applicant that are the height of their work. These knives were judged by ABS Mastersmiths on fit and finish, as well as general artistry. The standards are exacting. This Quillion Dagger was the centerpiece of Kevin's five knives. It won the BR Hughes Award for the best knife presented by a Mastersmith applicant. Kevin had an amazing shoring. Another of Kevin's knives was awarded the Antique Bowie Association Award for best reproduction bowie presented by a mastersmith. Kevin and Heather Harvey became the first husband and wife team of ABS Mastersmiths.
As you would expect, the fit and finish of this magnificent quillion Dagger is exceptional. The forged Damascus is very high contrast and perfectly ground. The bronze pommel and guard are both textured. The jet black African blackwood handle has been perfectly fluted and shows off the twisted silver and brass twisted wire. The pommel holds a fluted warthog tooth bead that has been fluted and rotates on its axis. A true masterpiece.
