Description: This a majestic Bowie was completed by Ed shortly before his mastersmiths test in June 2000. It was sold from BladeGallery shortly before the show and has been in a private collection since that time. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. It continues to be among my favorite knives that Ed has created to date.
The long, slender blade was forged by Ed using the san mai technique. Twist pattern Damascus (forged from 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels) surrounds a 52100 carbon steel core. 52100 is considered by many knifemakers and collectors to be the best steel for knives -- with its legendary edge holding capability. The out layers of Damascus are a bold twist with immediately captures attention. The left side of the blade is marked "Caffrey". The right side has Ed's JS stamp.
The guard and pommel are both formed from wrought iron recovered from an 1800s era wagon wheel. Both have been sculpted and fileworked. The deep black African blackwood handle has been nicely sculpted in chevrons -- resulting in both a very comfortable and sure grip. Exceptional work throughout!
