Description: Mastersmith Rick Dunkerley consistently creates knives that have perfect execution. Every so often, however, there is one that shines among the best knives that I have ever held, and this is one of those.
The blade features mirror polished, hot blued Escher pattern mosaic Damascus steel. By utilizing 15N20 and 1084 carbon steels along with pure nickel, Rick is able to bring out two very distinct shades of blue, along with pure silver lines. The Escher pattern in the Damascus evokes the transition between fish and birds found in Escher's work. The thumb stud features a blue sapphire which reflects the blues in the blade.
The bolsters are created from the same steel as the blade and feature gold wire inlay, a technique that Rick has recently introduced into his work. Deep blue fossil walrus ivory scales are dovetailed to the bolsters for a perfect fit. The scales have been carved and textured for a very dramatic effect. The screws have been fileworked and heat blued. The 1084 backbar and 15N20 liners have been heat blued, fileworked, and textured.
The blade is perfectly centered and the action silky smooth.
