Description: Each year, when apprentices test to become journeyman, five knives are made by each applicant that are the height of their work at the time. These knives are judged by ABS Mastersmiths on fit and finish, as well as general artistry. Each must be forged to shape from carbon steel. The standards are exacting. With this artful hunter, Mardi Meshejian gained the ranks of ABS Journeyman Smith at the 2002 Blade Show. As you would expect, the fit and finish is excellent.
Mardi is one of the true innovators of knife designs and clearly couldn't be limited by the standard hunter designs. His work is both creative and captivating. This hunter blurs the lines between an art knife and the traditional hunter shapes. The result is spectacular.
The handle is a narrow stag crown with an elegant slope to the handle. A Sessartine orange garnet (also known as a Mandarin garnet) is set in the handle in 18k gold. The guard provides protection for the fingers and a bright blue tone to the piece. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
