Description: Mastersmith David Lisch is perhaps best known for his Bowies and his understanding of stag. This exceptional knife shows David's attention to detail and his exceptional skill as both a bladesmith and a blacksmith! This rare Seax was made by David while he was still a journeyman smith, back in 2005. It has been meticulously cared for and is in brand new condition. By all appearances, David could have made it yesterday!
The Seax is an elegant knife dating back over 1500 years. Most likely, it was originally developed by the Franks and was an effective weapon as demonstrated by its widespread popularity over the centuries.
The 11 inch blade was hand forged from David's own ladder pattern damascus, combining 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels to ensure excellent edge holding and durability. The blade tapers into an aggressive tip for armor piercing. The spine is rounded for a comfortable thumb purchase. David's touchmark and J.S. mark are on the left side of the blade.
The handle is a column of premium amber stag. Bronze hammer textured spacers surround a central mosaic damascus spacer. The handle culminates in a damascus ball at the end of the handle. The tapered handle prevents your hand from sliding forward over the blade.
To keep the knife close at hand, a traditional style leather custom sheath tooled with hand tooled Celtic knots is included. The brass rings and leather straps are designed to suspend the blade edge up when worn on the back in traditional Scramaseax fashion.
Excellent work throughout!
