Description: I was very excited when I first got a look at Jean Wilke's knives. Jean is a young custom knifemaker from Pretoria, South Africa. His knives are exceptionally well designed and tested. His attention to detail is clearly evident in each of his creations. He is currently working with Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey, travelling back and forth every two weeks, alternating between working at Heavin Forge and his home forge, Fire Goby Forge. It is very exciting to see such a young man with such tremendous talent.
The blade is hand forged from Jean's own carbon damascus, to ensure excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The interlinked ladder damascus pattern is deeply etched and brought to a high polish for contrast. The blade is flat ground and razor sharp. The spine is fileworked into a rope pattern to provide a comfortable thumb purchase.
The handle is dyed and stabilized masur birch. The dense, nicely figured wood complements the damascus blade well. The fileworked spacer and guard are anodized titanium keeping the knife lightweight. This slender knife will be easy to keep close at hand, but is large enough to get almost any task done.
To keep the knife close at hand, a tooled brown leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
