Description: Jarrett Cieslak is an exceptional young bladesmith that is clearly a maker to watch. We anticipate that he will become 'one of the greats'.
At 15 years old, back in 2013, Jarrett began making knives after encountering blacksmithing videos on YouTube. He was immediately hooked. Between 2014 and 2016, he received a machining certificate from Harford Community College and was awarded welding certifications from Earlbeck Welding. This continuing education (along with hours and hours of hammering) gave him an understanding of how he could merge these experiences with his blacksmithing. In 2018, he attended an ABANA conference in Richmond, VA, where he was encouraged to join the American Bladesmith Society. Jarrett takes great pride in his craft, from forging the steel, to fit and finish, to personally hand stitching every sheath. His artistry stems from the love of transforming raw materials into a high performance knife that is sure to be passed down through generations.
This high performance chef's knife is a perfect choice as a primary knife in the kitchen. The long, deep-bellied blade is well suited as a general purpose chef's knife. Whether slicing, chopping, mincing, or dicing, this comfortable knife will do it all. The gentle arc of the cutting edge is perfect for a rocking chopping motion with plenty of finger clearance over a cutting board.
The blade is hand forged W1 carbon steel with a clear differential heat treatment line separating the ultra hard cutting edge from the soft, resilient spine. W1 combines excellent edge holding and chip resistance for a high performance knife. The spine and choil are rounded, ensuring no sharp corners for a comfortable grip. The blade is distal tapered for excellent balance in hand.
The handle is stabilized and dyed maple burl, sculpted to provide a comfortable grip. A red dyed maple burl spacer adds a nice color contrast to the handle. The one-piece collar-constructed bolster is 416 stainless steel. The bolster is carved to accomodate a comfortable pinch grip. The handle fills your hand nicely and will remain comfortable even after hours of use.
A black leather sheath made by Jarret is included to protect the knife during transportation. A matching green dyed maple saya pin is included to lock the blade safely in place.
Excellent work throughout!
