Description: Dylan McCoun of McCoun Tomahawks specilizes in producing traditional style tomahawks to fit a wide range of uses - from camping to combat. Dylan McCoun is a third generation bladesmith, beginning in the early 60's with Charles McCoun making a few knives as a hobby. These were passed down to his son Mark in the late 80's when he began his knifemaking journey. Dylan isthe thrid generation to start this hobby turned professional. His passion for bladesmithing started at a young age from watching his dad. He made his first knife when he was eight years old and hasn’t stopped since. By 16, he was making knives to sell, and he went into bladesmithing full time when he graduated high school.
This Bag Tomahawkl from Dylan, as you may guess based on the name, is designed to be the perfect size to go in a backpack. Despite its compact size, it will be up to any chore regardless of chopping wood, skinning game, or hammer tent poles at the camp site.
This Bag Hawk is hand forged from 1" 4140 carbon steel square bar, chosen for its chromium and carbon content -- making it an excellent choice for heavy use, high impact tools. The head features a deep beard. The combat blade culminates in a hammer. The head meassures 5.9 inches from the cutting edge to the hammer. The head is forge finished with a satin finished cutting edge.
The haft is charred hickory with a linseed soak, giving it a gorgous antiqued appearance. The haft measures 12 inches from top to bottom. A natural cord wrap at the base of the handle provides additional grip.
This hawk is accompanied by a hand stitched leather custom sheath for easy carry on the belt, though the axe is still short enough to fit in a standard backpack. Excellent work throughout!
