Description: Curtis Iovito and Mark Carey, co-founders of Spartan Blades, LLC, possess over 40 years of combined military service and experience. Since their retirement from US Army Special Forces they have been involved in the development, marketing, and program management of tactical gear and ballistic armor products. For years, Curtis has designed and made custom knives for his friends in Special Forces and for other companies. Mark and Curtis have combined their shared love of knife making, military experience and knowledge of the tactical equipment market to form Spartan Blades, LLC with a singular mission: “Manufacture finely crafted tactical and field knives.”
The Spartan Raider Dagger (SBBL3BK) was designed by Les George, knifemaker and former U.S. Marine as an homage to the Legendary United States Marine Corps Raider Stiletto of WW II. This sleek and durable dagger, while holding to the overall design of the original knife, takes advantage of a full tang design, injection molded handles, and modern SK5 steel.
The symmetrical dagger ground blade is Japanese SK-5 carbon tool steel with a black powder coat finish. SK5 is very similar to 1080 carbon steel, known for its hardness and excellent edge holding.
This dagger was designed hilt-heavy to lay in the hand, reducing the risk of dropping. The original stiletto hilts were die-cast using zinc-aluminum alloy to create the handle but, over time it was discovered that the zinc ions in this alloy tended to leach out, leaving the casting extremely brittle. As a result, more than half of the few Raider stilettos still in existence today have very fine hilt cracks or entire portions of the hilt missing, with pieces having simply flaked off; many more have replacement handles. For this reason, the handle was made full tang and features injection molded scales that provide lots of texture for excellent grip.
An injection molded sheath is included to keep the dagger close at hand.
Made in Taiwan.
