Description: We were excited when Australian bladesmith Jason Heinemann reached out to ask if BladeGallery would respresent his work. Jason clearly has an eye for the small details and talented skills at the forge. Jason began taking his bladesmithing career to the next level after taking classes at Australian bladesmithing school Tharwa Valley Forge in 2018 where he learned to create and refine complex damascus patterns. He currently prefers to make one-of-a-kind art knives with a focus on bowie knives, fighters, and daggers. This Mosaic Take Down Fighter shows Jason's skills at their best and can easily be the center of any collection!
The massive 13-1/2 inch blade is forged from Jason's own mosaic damascus, combining 1084 and 15n20 carbon steels. The complex pattern is extremely engaging and shows Jason's skill at the forge. A false edge along the spine lightens the blade and moves into a domed spine. Jason's maker mark is shown on the left side of the blade.
The handle is made from ancient walrus ivory sculpted to provide a comfortable grip. The sections of ivory are seperated by twisted W's damascus spacers. The damascus S-guard is sculpted into a clamshell at the top of the guard. This style of guard is designed to protect the user's hand and stop an incoming blade if necessary. The damascus end cap is fluted and includes a custom damascus takedown pin. This allows the knife to be disassembled if cleaning and maintenance is needed. Take-down construction requires tighter tolerances and shows Heinemann's focus on the details. This is a knife you really have to hold to truly appreciate! Because this knife is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to oil the blade and walrus ivory handle.
To keep the knife close at hand, a custom black leather sheath made by Shane Partridge of Blacks Blades is included. The beautiful sheath features tooling and a stingray skin inlay.
Excellent work throughout!
